Pierre Mouhanna

pierre mouhanna: architect designer, received his degree in interior architecture in1983, at the usek ”université saint-esprit de kaslik”, faculty of fine arts where, he was awarded a first prize and a bursary to germany.
he is professor at the same university since 1985 in the field of interior architecture, design, and painting; at that date, he started his professional career in beirut, and founded his own studio ‘atelier pierre mouhanna’. he is also professor in interior architecture graphic design and painting, and head of art and design department at thevenet college “affiliated with duquesne university, pa. usa.”in rabweh lebanon from 1991 till 2000. he has done various kinds of teaching, wrote several articles about interior architecture and design, attended seminars.
he is collaborating with italian productor; darra: ‘lavorazione artistica del vetro’ and chinese productors; junhui lamps electrical factory zhongshan city.
since 1998 he is a member of the association of artists, lebanese painters and sculptors. ever since then mouhanna has been involved in research and formal experimentation in a variety of fields: architecture, landscaping and industrial design, painting and graphics.

his architectural research based on le corbusier, mies van der rohe, bauhaus and art-déco and the visits of temples, museums, and great traditional architecture in italy as well, starting from rome to venice passing by pisa and florence. he has designed several projects, notably private villas, starting from the study of their architecture, through the study of their interior design and landscaping. he started creating interesting furniture in 1988. mouhanna cultivates a particular interest in neo-modern and contemporary design. he designs objects, furniture and chairs. mouhanna is also an artist. his painting style reveals cubist influences. he admits to be inspired by artists, but explains that his architectural aptitude also affects his technique: “i work with geometric forms every day”.

his work and painting are possessed by art collectors from japan, saudi arabia, europe and lebanon as well , and were published in local and international magazines. he was requested for several documentary-interviews on local and international tv. and radio stations, specially; ‘orbit ‘ “al yawm channel” dec. 2003, and ‘radio monte carlo’ france nov.2003 & 2006. participated in several international trade fairs held in beirut; “idex”, “fine”, and “art-déco simaa”(salon international des métiers d’arts et d’architecture) from 1995 to 2002 . he visits the annual international exhibitions held in italy, since 1995; i saloni (fiera di milano), fiera del mobile (pesaro), abitare il tempo (verona), and promosedia (udine), and that to be up-to-date with the new materials and tendencies in the world of design.”triennale di milano”and “biennale di venezia” sep.2005 were his point of interest among his visit this year.

participated in performing art live painting inspired by “the german requiem” of johannes brahms organized by chahine gallery beirut 2008. his paintings has been exhibited in numerous art galleries in beirut; chahine galery (1984,1986,2004,2005,2008) and ‘sursock museum (salon d’automne1995,1996,1999,2003,2005,2009)’ . he has done more than one individual painting exhibition in beirut at ‘pera azzam’1995 and usek university 2005.
one organizer invited mouhanna for the second consecutive year, to exhibit his designs in france at the “salon du meuble de paris”, participated in jan. 2003.
most of the pieces sold so far grace villas that mouhanna designed in lebanon and abroad.
one of his famous chairs “carissima” was chosen to advertise in 30 sec. on local tv. the “art déco” exhibition 2004 & 2008 held at biel beirut.
the international committee of the selection b.i.d., business initiative directions, madrid-spain has awarded a prize ‘quality summit award’ “à l’excellence et au prestige de l’entreprise” in the gold category to “atelier pierre mouhanna” march 2005.
